iPhone Vs. Android: Which is better?

The debate has been going on that what is better Android or iPhone. When going for a smartphone, you will have two operating systems iOS, which are iPhones and Android, which is the most common operating system found in smartphones.

So how do you get to know that which is the best amongst the two? There are certain differences that both of the operating systems have and are meant for a certain work task. For instance, the iPhone is limited to performing the task which Android cannot perform, whereas there are some tasks that an iPhone cannot perform.

So it all depends on what your requirements are. In this article, we will be discussing which is better iPhone or Android.

Interface Of Both The OS

The interface is one of the most important things to consider when going for a different operating system. People who have been in the habit of using Android will find it a bit difficult to shift to iOS. iOS, despite having an easy to use interface, can take time to adapt to if you are using the iPhone for the very first time.

Within the interface, you have customization, design, look of the icons, widgets, and much more. With iOS, you get easy to use interface, but you cannot customize it. This is the thing which many of the users don’t like about iPhones that they are not customizable until you have jailbreaked them. Coming to Android, android phones are open to its users.

One can easily customize it to change the complete look of the phone. You can customize everything, themes, widgets, icon pack. You can also install launcher to give your extra phone features such as added gestures and easy connectivity to your laptop or any other device. When it comes to choosing the device based on the interface and customization, then Android should be your choice.

Coming to the features, there are many features in android phones that iPhones don’t have or will be having in their future update. For instance, Picture-in-picture or PIP mode was recently introduced to iOS, whereas Android was running it on the devices since the release of Android 8. For those who don’t know what PIP mode is, it is a feature of the phone which allows you to play media in the background. For instance, if you are playing a movie on a website or any media streaming platform,

you can go back to your home screen, and the content will still be running without pausing. This feature is really helpful when you are watching a video or movie, and you got some important message, and you need to reply to it. Android has various other features, but iPhone doesn’t, such as always-on display, creating multiple users instant apps, night mode available in the camera, widgets on the home screen, split screen, etc.

These are some of the essential features that the iPhone misses, but they are already there on Android phones. If you are using these features of Android in day-to-day life, you will miss them if you are switching to the iPhone.

Bloatware is not an iOS thing, and this is one of the best things I like about the iPhone. Most of the android phone which are having custom ROMS does have a lot of bloatware preinstalled, and it feels such a time waste to uninstall them.

Why is bloatware unhealthy for your phone, even though there might be some app you are going to install later on from the Playstore? It has been found that bloatware is the cause of creating bugs and slowing down your phone.

One can’t be sure of that from where the app is installed and is the platform safe or not. If the app is installed from an unknown or not so trusted platform, that it can cause a data breach.

However, many high-end Android phones do not have bloatware, but one can’t be sure when it will be back again with the newly launched version.

Well, iPhone in this aspect does have a clear advantage, and users who are not looking forward to seeing their app drawer of the home screen filled with a lot of bloatware would go for iPhones.

The other aspect in which the iPhone leads the competition is that there are no ads available. When talking about android phones, you might see unwanted ads that might disrupt from using your phones.

Ads are unwanted, and nobody wants an ad to pop up when they are playing games or watching a movie. Well, with android phones, you have to be ready for it. With most of the android phones using stock android or phones coming at a higher price point, ads are no longer an issue. Ads can be seen in smartphones having custom ROM, such as MIUI. People have claimed that phones having MIUI and ColourOS are having unwanted ads.

Even though Xiaomi has claimed to remove ads from MIUI but are running on custom ROM, one cannot be sure about it. iPhone never had a single ad on their interface. This can be regarded as one of the reasons why people prefer using iPhones over Android phones.

Developers like Samsung, Google, Oneplus, and Asus have removed ads from their interface, but when looking down to mid-range smartphone market, you can find android phones filled with ads.

No Headphone Jack On iPhone

Apple keeps on removing all the essential features, one of them being a headphone jack. Yes, iPhone does not have a headphone jack, and you will have to use Airpods, which comes way to costlier that you can buy a mid-range android phone in that range.

A headphone jack is required in a phone because one cannot always carry a dongle or adaptor, or one cannot be sure whether their AirPods have a battery or not. Suppose you are traveling, and you have to spend 10 hours on a flight. Will that be possible if you carry AirPods with battery low, or with headphones without the dongle?

No, it will get hard to stay on the flight without getting bored for 10 hours. With having an android phone, you need not worry about the batteries of headphones or carrying a dongle all around.

All you have to do is carry an earphone with you, and you are good to go. In some cases, Android is also following the trend, and some phones have also removed the headphone jack, and they provide you with earphones with a type-C cable or a dongle.

Big Notch

Apple is still following the trend of those big notches even though Android has removed it. I don’t like notch, and that’s because it hinders your viewing experience.

Even though you have a full screen with a bezel-less display, that notch covers your screen area. Not only the notch disrupts your viewing experience, but it can also disturb you while playing gaming.

In most games such as PUBG and COD, controls get hidden behind the notch, making it difficult to play games with the notch. Also, the big notch of the iPhone does not look good. Previously android phones also started coming with the big notch, but thankfully the trend has now gone for the android phones.

Android phones have now shifted to dot notch and drop notch, which are way better than those big notches of iPhones. Moreover, some of the phones do have a punch-hole camera setup, which gives users a full-screen display with a seamless viewing experience.

There are some phones with pop-up cameras, which can be considered the solution to get rid of those displays with the notch, but the trend has gone too, and Android has adapted to drop notch for some time.

Faster Updates

One thing for which you will not want to use Android phones is the updates they provide. With Android phones, you won’t be receiving system updates after a certain period. After updating the system for your device once or twice, developers won’t be pushing OTA updates for your devices.

For instance, if your phone is running on Android Nougat, your phone will only be updated to Android Oreo, and in very rare cases, your phone will get a new update for the Android Oreo.

With Android, you will be receiving patches via the update, but there are no chances of receiving the Android system upgrade after the first time. With iPhones, you will be getting frequent system updates. With regular updates, your phone will be running smoothly. What more? With iPhones, you will be getting regular updates and on the same day as everyone.

With Android, you will not be getting frequent updates, and if you get updates, then you won’t be updated on all the phones on the same day. Android phones after two years stop support, and you won’t be receiving updates after some time.

Using Apple Accessories

Using Apple accessories is not possible on Android phones, be it Apple Watches, AirPods, and macs. These products don’t have the support for Android phones, and for this reason, one cannot use them with their Android phone if they are having one.

Apple watches are used worldwide because of the accurate tracking they provide, and the specs they have does make them better than any other smartwatches available in the market. Airpods being costlier does provide a better mechanism and sound quality, and yes, tap gestures from these AirPods are way superior, but you can’t use them with any of the android phones.

The same is with the MacBooks available. Although you will be able to use MacBooks without having connected to your phone, it won’t form the communication link between your smartphone and laptop. Macbooks are a work laptop, and for a work laptop, it is important to have it connected to your phone to create a suitable working environment between both the devices.

But it is not possible if you are using an android phone with Apple MacBooks. With Android you can have easy communication between all the windows PC and accessories that are available.

Better Connectivity With Bluetooth And Cloud Services

Apple, in the aspect of cloud services and Bluetooth, should never be your first choice. Apple uses its default iCloud, which is not possible to access on a non-Apple product. With Android phones, you have google drive, which you can access all the phones and computers no matter whether your laptop is running on what operating systems.

But if you are using iCloud, you will regret your choice of selecting the cloud service. iCloud is limited by platform, and one cannot use it on android phones and Windows laptops. Suppose you have an iPhone and a windows laptop; in such a case, you won’t be able to share your file between both the devices via the cloud.

Talking about the sharing of files, sharing via Bluetooth is also not available on iPhones. Don’t know why they do not allow sharing of files via Bluetooth but, iPhone misses one of the essential features that should be there on a smartphone. Although the Bluetooth is there on the iPhone and can be used to connect to Bluetooth devices, sharing files is limited between the operating system you are using.

Universal Type-C

Sorry to say, but iPhone misses this; there’s no type-C as well. Apple has its mechanism for charging their phone, i.e., they use the lighting port for charging their phones. Lighting ports do have some pros but are limited by the cons it has. One of the reasons why the lighting port sucks is that it does not have fast charging.

The lighting port used as the charging port in iPhones does not allow fast charging. Whereas type-C, which is most commonly used in android phones, does have a fast charging option. With a lightning port, you will have a connectivity problem with your laptop while sharing files over both the devices.

Also, the cables for iPhones are way costlier than that of universal type-C cable. Also, the type-C port is the universal port, which means you can easily connect storage devices, displays, earphones with type-C cable, and other peripheral to your phone having Type-C port. Also, you won’t be easy getting a lighting port around. People prefer using android phones more than iPhones so that you won’t be getting the charger for your iPhone in your friend’s house.

For instance, you are staying at your friend’s house, and your iPhone is about to go dead, what you will do now? There are few chances of finding a charger for the iPhone in your friend’s house. You can easily find a type-C cable for charging your phone.

There’s no debate when it comes to the security of the phone between both of the platforms. iPhones are way more secure than Android phones, and if security is your biggest concern, then you should take a step back before choosing the phone you will be using.

Well, Android phones are secure, too, but not more than that of the iPhone, and the reason for this is ads as well as the ability to download third-party apps from a malicious website. For instance, many people want to use a free version of some premium app and go on downloading the app from some unknown website.

They are not sure whether the app will be having some malware or not. With iPhone, you won’t be having any issue, as you will not be able to download apps from websites, and you can only use the Apple app store. If you only use Playstore for downloading apps, then you are completely secure.

Talking about jailbreaking the phone, jailbreaking is quite complicated in iPhone while Android makes it easy for you, and develop like Xiaomi promotes unlocking the bootloader of your phone. Once you have unlocked the bootloader, it voids the security of your phone and the warranty, be it the iPhone or Android phone.

Price of the phones

If you are not extending your budget, then probably iPhone should not be your choice. In the price point that iPhone comes in, Android phones provide better specs. iPhones are costlier than that of Android. Although there are android phones that come at a higher price point, they provide the user with a lot better functionality than that of the iPhone.

If you are looking for a phone within your budget or that comes at a low price point, you should probably go for Android phones. With android phones, you have a variety of options to choose from, no matter what your budget is.

Final Words

From the above points, it can be concluded that Android phones are way better than the iPhone. Well, its completely up to you that what platform you are compatible with. If you are using Apple products, then you should go for iPhones to build a better ecosystem between all your devices. If you are looking for a phone that is not to tight for your budget, then go for Android phones.
